Pre-race routine:

Set up my transition area, picked up timing chip. Wanted to get some warm-up laps in the pool, but ran out of time.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 250 meters
  • / 100 meters
Comments:

Got very comfortable, very quickly. Even without a warm-up.
Didn't really try to push too hard, which is good, because I had more energy for the bike.
What would you do differently?:

I would have remembered my goggles. Borrowed Ron's, and he had to do without, because he started before I finished. Felt bad about that. Thanks, Ron!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Was a bit slow in T-1, just due to the fact that i had to layer-up for the 30 degree bike. And was a bit indecisive on what to put on and what to skip.
What would you do differently?:

I should have had a concrete plan before starting the race on what I was going to wear for the bike/run. But because of the frigid temps, I was playing it more by how I feel, and that cost me some time.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 11.5 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I went down the wrong lane and lost a few seconds going around to rack my bike.
Also, lost some time getting my bike shoes off and laces tied on running shoes...fingers were a bit stiff and cold.
***Felt very strong running with bike, and running out of transition to the run segment! That's a change.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get some 'quick laces' for my shoes. Took additional :20 just tying my shoes.
Run
  • 00m
  • 2 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Actually had my legs after the bike. Got into a good tempo pretty quickly. Didn't fly, but for the first race of the season, this run was better than expected.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

A bit of stretching and drinking fluids. I had some sweets to replenish the glycogen about :15 after finishing.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably went as well as I could expect for as little run training as I did over the winter. Kept my candence high throughout. That's all I can ask for.

Event comments:

Other than being damn cold, this race was a winner!
Great distance for early in the season. I will do this next year.
