Pre-race routine:

THIS is the part I DON'T recommend... Had friends over for a bbq (this would have been ok, by itself) then to a concert at a favorite local venue and listened to a really bad 70s band. And by 'bad', I mean BAD, as in NOT GOOD AT ALL, not the 80s definition of 'bad'. By the time I drove the baby-sitter home and climbed into bed, it was nearly midnight. If Firefall comes to a town near you anytime soon (race-eve or not), I would not recommend it. Sorry, guys, but it was lame.
Event warmup:

Couple of laps in the pool
Swim
  • 12m 48s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Over all pretty good
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Because the swim was held in a pool and not in the lake where the bike and run coruse was set up they recorded our swim time and added it to the rest of our time
Bike
  • 27m 56s
  • 7.8 miles
  • 16.75 mile/hr
Comments:

Overall a good ride. Legs felt good. I tried to stay in a gear that allowed a higher cadence
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Felt good. Had a quick drink of gatorade
Run
  • 42m 36s
  • 3 miles
  • 14m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs were tight on the first lap so I walked some. They felt better on the second lap
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the run
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little. Chated with friends and family who came to cheer me on

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to log more hours on the run

Event comments:

The main reason I signed up for this race was to get an open water swim in before I do the Races the Rockies series starting next month.

Still had a good time and it was a good gauge of were I am on the fitness scale - I need more RUNNING and RUNNING and even more RUNNING

As I have found in the two races in my short tri career. The Volunteers were great. Very encouraging to all the racers

Not that my last name is the easiest in the world to spell, but they REALLY mangled it on the certificate! Oh well.

Wow, looks like you are ready with your swim! That is a pretty long distance for so early in the season. Great job. Sleep well tonight.
