Pre-race routine:

Up at 6:30, ate half bagel with PB, banana, and sipped gatorade and water all morning
Event warmup:

Went out into the water, waves we breaking every 30-50 yds, 6-7ft swells, it was going to be rough. The race director tried to what it out, first group goes off (have you ever seen a current so strong that it takes the lead swimmers 30 mintues to get to the bouy, I have), so they move the swim into 100 yds off shore, still not working, the women still couldn't get out there. Now the director is freakin out, well how about we let you all run in the water ankle high, and make it a duathlon. JUST WHAT I WANTED, NOT. I understand the safety aspect, but I also love the fact the swim clears out the experienced and non-experienced. We went in a hour after oringal, so I had a little bit of pwer bar because I was starting to feel hungry, because the race still hadn't started.

Event comments:

I am not given it a better rating, simply because of the lack of swim, can't blame the race organizer, but I would have liked to swim it

Well...I dont know what to say...sucks that after all of the anticipation it got turned into a sort of Du...
I was volunteering on the bike course (In the beginning I was "red shirt" at the first turn on to Harbor Blvd. and at the end of the course I was the guy in the red shirt calling out "HARD LEFT AHEAD" about 100 yards before the final turn)

Congratulations on finishing and maybe I will see you when I get out there next year (back injury kept me out this year...kind of glad!!!)

Wow, talk about disappointment, as this was my first tri and I'm a swimmer (and frankly a walker, not much of a runner yet). The "calf-high" surf was hip-high for a short person like me -- the lifeguards laughed and suggested I just dolphin altogether -- and with the delay and extra energy expenditure, I was out of fuel and legs by the time the run began. But hey, I had fun anyway, I learned a lot, and I'm already searching for the next local tri with an ocean swim (plus I'm getting some run coaching).

The is the breath of Life in Ventura July 24, they offer a Olympic and sprint.  Nice flat course.  You might want to give it a look.
