Man-nurse here..... been an RN for about 12 years... pretty much worked what ever paid the most   I was a man-nurse before it was cool to be a man-nurse

Oh, and I have worked at some of the LARGEST and most HUGEST hospitals ANYWHERE (okay I may be over exaggerating)......

As of last friday, I do nothing. After 20 years in various accounting roles, I was given the opportunity to move to Atlanta or not work for a while. I took the latter. I am now on a self imposed sabbaticle (sp). Not sure how long I will do this but after almost 1 day, its pretty cool!

I am the Operations Manager at a coal fired electric generating station. 10 to 12 hour days Monday through Friday and on call 24 hours a day. My daughter plays basketball on a traveling tournament team, so we are going somewhere almost every weekend. My wife does tris too, so we are able to enjoy each others company while we train. We train when we get a chance.

bbauer - I was doing a ride south of Atlanta a couple weeks ago on a Saturday morning and ended up riding with your pilot. Several of us had missed a turn somewhere and he jumped in with us to get back on course. Found out he had flown the team, or at least the driver, down to Atl for the NASCAR race that weekend and tossed the bike in the back of the plane to ride while he was there - not a bad way to ride all over the country.

Great thread - interesting read.

Like Manatee, I am also on a sabattical right now that is unfortunately coming to an end in two weeks. Left LARGE software company (Microsoft) a month ago and starting with SMALL software company after Easter. I am a channel manager. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean I change channels and watch TV all day (wife may disagree). I sell through our business partners. I also work out of the house and enjoy the flexibility for training, but face the payback of traveling and having to fit it in in poor hotel gyms at odd hours. We could use a travel workout section on this site for recommendations on good gyms and pools in various cities.

In the summer I'm a full time mom, soccer coach etc.

In the winter I work as a Ski Patroller...we are first responders to any injuries on the slopes and do avalanche control work with explosives to make the mountain safe for you to ski...and we get to ski a little (10 hours a day)

I also am the accountant, scheduler, and secretary for my husband and I's flooring business...tile. hardwood and laminate.

I analyze risk (sounds like lots of fun huh...) for a large international bank.   This is just what I get paid to do.  But my real job is a husband and father of two boys, ages 1 1/2 and 2 1/2!  That is where I really have to work and it is much more fulfilling.

For the past 11 years I've been in the Army; 9 of those years have been spent in scout / sniper platoons. For the past 2 years, I've been assigned to the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC). My first year here I "trained" scout / sniper platoons before they deployed overseas; now I assist in the development of the scenarios that units will encounter during their rotations at JRTC (ie: power point ranger). Depending on where we are in the planning process for the rotation my schedule is pretty flexible. Most of the time I can fit in about 4 hours of training a day, 2 hours before work starts and then 2 hours at lunch. At 5:30pm, I turn into a college student and proud / frustrated parent of a 3yo boy who wants to know "why" about everything.

I'm a bioenvironmental engineer in the Air Force, but I'm in the process of applying to medical school. It's nice to see that so many doctors still find the time to train! I'm hoping to keep it up when (if?) I go to school. I'll be sad to leave the awesome schedule in my current job, though.

Wow....hats off to all of you guys....

I'm in event management for a high tech firm in sillicon valley.  I have to travel a lot, (in the south of france right now), but aside from that, I am single with no kids, and no obligations and I still struggle to find the time to train.

I have no idea how you guys keep it together with spouses, kids and a job...that's amazing... kudos to you all for your dedication.  I imagine you guys sacrifice a TON to train on top of all of that.

You should all be very proud of yourselves...
