Cop. Work 4 10 hour shifts, 4pm to 2am. 2 small kids, and a very understanding wife (so far) who doesn't give me much grief about stealing time to workout.

I had to become a cop for two reasons: first, my wife is a flight nurse on a helicopter and always had better stories to tell than I did at parties. Second, and most important, my wife and I became the parents of a beautiful baby girl 5 years ago, and one of us needed to be able to legaly carry a gun for when she starts dating.   (and don't let the smile fool ya: I'm not kidding)

I have 2 girls, 5 and 13 months, I'm with ya on the gun thing. My wife thinks I'm joking when I say she'll be lojacked before the date.
Anyway, I'm an ER nurse for past 5yrs working the 17-03 shift and daytime dad, Mom is a school teacher. The name of the game is staying flexible when it comes to training.

Fresh out of law school - clerking for a federal judge and then on to a big firm in ATL.  I'm getting in my triathlon training now while I have the good hours, because I know once I get to the firm I'll be working a LOT more hours than I am now!

Pediatric resident... until June.  Fortunately I'm in NYS where the 80 hour work week is (mostly) followed, but 70-80 hours a week is plenty for me.  I also have a very understanding husband and 2 kids, so fitting in workouts can be a trick.  After internship, and being in the "4:30 club" (meaning getting into the hospital at 5am), and so many months of sleepless nights, I can't bring myself to get up in the am.  Post call days sometimes work out OK, and I'll squeeze workouts in in the evenings.  I'm not a poster child for adequate training!

I guess I must be the only esthetician on the board! Been in the biz 10 years and self employed so I have my schedule just so i like it, approx 24 hrs/wk, plenty of time for my 2 yr old and hubby and training. By the way, if you don't know what an esthetician is, I'm the person who shapes eyebrows and gives facials/chemical peels, etc. So all you who don't wear sunblock, keep it up- I make my living fixing your skin!

I'm with the government and I'm here to help. I love that line, because usually, if I show up at your door, I'm going to ruin your day.

I'm a federal agent with our newest branch of government, and I work weapon and strategic technology smuggling investigations.

The best thing about my job is that I am required to meet physical fitness requirements, so I get time to work out on the job Nothing better than getting paid to workout!

Downside is lots of long hours and late nights. Why can't the bad guys work 9-5?

Not having read any other posts, I'm sure this has already been covered, but just in case...

Are you only sleeping 4 hours per day? I think that's a big part of the problem right there. I don't think there's anything wrong with your goals, just your daily life. Get more sleep. Yes, you may need to train at night to be able to get the mileage in (trainer for bike mileage), but it's doable. Remember, you havew the same 24 hours in a day that every one else does, it's just that most of your waking hours are skewed one direction. The advantage to that is that the lines at 24 hour Fitness would be shorter...

And to answer the subject line question -- I'm a design engineer at a large commercial airplane maufacturer.

I'm a commodities trader for a hedge fund. Since we're on the West coast I have to be at work at 4:00am due to the New York markets. Sometime, like tonight, I have to fill in on the night shift and work from 9:00pm to 6:00am.

I got 5 hours of sleep once last year on vacation. I doubt I'll get that much again till next year.

Pest Control Technician (bug guy). Up at 430am and hope to be home by 430 or 5pm. Previous lives Retired Air Force, Computer Networking, Taxes and Accounting. Being a bug guy is much simpler and I get to walk all day carrying 14lbs of water (I should add this to my traing log).
