I'm not sure where I heard this (might have been a post on begginertriathlete) but is it possible to over hydrate? I find myself trying to drink as much water as I can throughout the day. Can this have negative effects.

You have to drink absurd amounts of water to make yourself hyponatremic.  It's only really a concern when you're losing a lot of sweat and replacing it with water only, like in a longer race.  On a day to day basis, there's nothing to worry about.

You drink a lot, and there is nothing wrong with your kidneys, you will pee a lot. There is nothing wrong with a high intake of fluids, as long as your kidneys are functioning correctly. Your pee will simply come out clear colored. As for the article, I believe those athletes are drinking a lot, but forgetting to replace the sodium they had lost through sweat. That's what sports drinks (Accelerade, Hammer, etc...) are for. During training, or racing, however, it is very possible to overhydrate to a point where it affects your performance. The goal is to compensate for the fluid loss related to sweat/heat.

If you are taking in a lot of water during exercise, it probably isn't be absorbed into the body without the presents of carbohydrates.  The Gatorade commericals might be stupid sometimes, but they are correct in saying "Hydrating with water just isn't enough"   You need to replace electrolytes in your body as well

See Dr Gabe Mirkins site about this.

Its possible to even die as a result but pretty strange.
