Pre-race routine:

It was a 2 hour drive from home so took oatmeal and ate it on the way. Took coffee and bottled water. Pretty much the same thing I always do.
Event warmup:

I ran for 5 minutes or so then stretched out some.

Comments:

It is a good run. I developed some problems early on and it set the stage for the race. At about the 3 - 4 mile mark, or sooner, I had a pain in my left foot on the outside edge, near the middle (lengthwise). I have had some similiar type of pain but this was worse. I really had to concentrate to run through it. I tried adjusting my gait, stride length, strike pattern, etc. It still hurt. Eventually, I got into some rhythm and plodded along, never really comfortable.
It was getting hot and this only added to my discomfort. I plodded along. That is how my race went until about the last couple of miles or so. That is when the pain in my foot seemed to let up....only because my right knee wanted to stop working or bearing any weight. I walked a little bit, tried to shake it off, ran. I was telling myself I had come this far, just tough it out. Knees are funny....they want no part of "toughing it out". I walked a little more.
People would pass me and offer encouragement. It was funny/ great. I wasn't winded or anything I just couldn't load up that knee. I managed to run the last little bit but it was tough. I got passed by ALOT of people but, I FINISHED.
What would you do differently?:

Run the week leading up to the event.
Post race
Warm down:

Found the wife and kid. I kinda hobbled around and got some Powerade, fruit and I had packed a Endurox Recovery so I drank that. Stretched alittle bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weakness. Too many motorcycle, go-cart, bicycle, and general accidents when I was a kid. Lack of physical ability. ???

Event comments:

We really liked the setting. It would be great to spend the day with picnic and see the park. Lots of walking trails and rich in history.

Course: Winds through the Civil War Park. It didn't seem hilly but I think there is some grade it is just gradual. It is all through the roads in the woods. NO development other that the monuments and the road you are running on.
