Hi! I have just signed up for my first Sprint Triathlon and I'm a bit apprehensive! The Tri is on Sept 19th, which leaves me with 14 weeks of training. I have consistently been running for about 2 years (although I'm not a very strong runner), and I'll be new to swimming (I held records in freestyle as a younger girl, but I haven' t swam in many years). Is that enough? Any tips or pointers for me?

You can definately do it! I just started training about 6 weeks ago, and I have about 7 left until my first tri. I am not a runner, swimmer, or biker really. I ran a couple times a week, but not very regularly. I haven't swam since before high school. I biked, but never competitively. My point is, with 14 weeks, you can definately get into shape and do a sprint. My advice is to get a little bit of a refresher course in swimming if it's been a while. That helped me quite a bit. Also, I'm following a training plan on www.beginnertriathlete.com. Find one that fits your schedule and endurance levels. Good luck!!

Hello and welcome to the site.

I think if you come from a competitive sport background, are still in relatively good shape you should be able to pull it all together in the time frame that you have allowed yourself.

Just remember that time does not matter that much in your first tri, you are there to complete the race and have fun.

Have fun and train smart. :-)

Thanks guys! I'll keep you all updated on my progress from week to week. I'm so excited that I wish I could leave work and go start training now!!! Any nutritional guidelines I should be following? I am a pretty healthy eater as it is, but I know that energy can come from certain food sources.

How's your biking?
I ask because in my very limited (one) triathlon experience
the bike is a huge part of the event.
It sounds like you have the running and swimming under
control, as long as you praactice regularly between now
and your event.

Biking is OK. I'll be doing a lot between now and then just to get up to speed. So, are you from Virginia? (Virrginnystan?)

what makes my training better and more fruitfull is eating many, smaller meals instead of a few big ones...try 5-6 times per day.  if i only eat a few times a day and big meals, i usually lack the oomph for training and quickly run out fo fuel..i even bonked on my ride a few weeks ago...totally sucked.  eat. eat. eat and carbs are your freind.
