Pre-race routine:

First Traithlon ever, I was feeling very nervous...and the chop in the water was interesting to say the least...just try my best and see how I go..
Woke up about 5am...got there by 6am
600ml bottle about an hr to race
Swim
  • 13m 58s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

Of all three legs, this would be my strongest leg, I normally lead the club swimming sessions if the pros aren't there. I looked out at the water and I saw choppy conditions, which for me were awesome, I am not a 'pure techinicial' swimmer I am more the bash and crash swimmer, but I am trying to improve that for the longer distances I want to do.
I led the swim out with two guys I know pretty well, swimming right between them to get the 'V' draft as that they were swimming side by side, feeling really comfortable, then a jetski pulled up to us and said you swam an extra 50m past the bouy...damn...Still finished 11th in my cat..but it should have been 1st to 3rd...still felt clean throughout the swim
What would you do differently?:

Look for myself rather then relying on others

Felt dizzy after the swim...I have no idea why

Comments:

I have just starting proper 'riding' only 4 and a half months ago, and if you said to me that I would be in the top 100 riders in my first tri...I would of laughed at you..However I had a good day..
There was a really strong wind on the course in which you could do 50km with the tail wind and about 28-30kms when coming back..it was a really tough ride but I was passing 'groups' of people esp in the headwind..

I was really happy with my effort on this leg.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...I think I have natural improvement in this leg, I want to see how I can ride in another year of training under my belt.

Comments:

I was quick in this one

Comments:

First tri and feeling good off the bike...first km I did in a 3.48..then the second km I felt my calf was very tight..just decided to ease it back in...I wasn't a chance for a top ten finish but I felt that if I was going to continue on with this pace I would of been in trouble..I think I could of done a 21min but safety first its a long season to go til the half...
What would you do differently?:

I don't regret the choice I made...
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

First tri and I thought finishing the top third percentage in my catergory is not a bad way to go...

I still have a fair way to go with all three disciplines and I can still lose a bit more weight from about 80 to a 75kg and then we will see more improvement..but this game is all about patience

Event comments:

Good race and good course
