Subject: Twin Lakes or something else?

Hey all,

i'm from michigan and coming to visit my sister-in-law (northwestern suburbs of chicago) for the two of us to do a sprint tri together.  i'm looking for a race in late june that has a clean swim and smooth-ish roads  we're considering twin lakes in palentine which is in late june.  thoughts?  recommendations?

thanks

The only clean looking swims out here are in lake michigan.  All other lake swims I know of are in mud bottom lakes and are clean and perfectly safe but have limited visability.  Never did twin lakes but I heard its small due to permit size and sells out quick.  In my Opinion, The best tris in the area are Galena (mid may), trishark (bloomington il) June 2, Evergreen (bloomington, Il) Mid July  Naperville, Rockford (I believe they changed to mid June), Chicago triathlon Late August, I heard southshore was good but I never did it (july).  The last two are in lake michigan so they usually have great visability

I've done Twin Lake the past two years and plan to do it this year. I like the swim and I suppose the bike is smooth. I rarely cycle and do ok. I like that it's a small race.

Bigfoot is also in late June, but is up at Lake Geneva, WI. Definitely a clear swim. Maybe a couple small bumps in the roads, but they were decent last year. I haven't ridden in Palatine to compare, but don't think it'd be that different between them. There are a few hills, but they're not that big.

I have done the Twin Lakes tri the last 2 years and will head back this year.  Overall about 8 waves of 50- so you're off within 40 minutes.  Lake swim is clockwise horseshoe beach start with colored milk cartons every 10 yards for easy sighting to the right.  Bike is fine- not great and not bad.  Run is flat through neighborhoods.
