Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

A little shorter on time than I usually like, but not too rushed. Would have like to have more fluid prior to the race start.
Event warmup:

A few minutes on the water with some accelerations to loosen the arms.
Swim
  • 16m 14s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt good on the swim. Worked on pushing the pace more than normal to see what I could do. Had a bit of confidence after this weeks workouts. Just a little pushing and shoving early, but was able push back.
Transition 1
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

I was in the first rack from the swim, so not a long run to my bike.
Bike
  • 1h 09m 13s
  • 24.5 miles
  • 21.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Early on in the ride, legs felt a bit sluggish. They seemed to work themselves out after 3-4 miles. A few riders would pass close together and it would seem like no one would pass me for miles. Negative split the ride by about 1:00 thanks to a slight tail wind.
What would you do differently?:

Keep pushing, was about 1:10 faster in 2003.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

Smooth controlled transition with little wasted effort.
What would you do differently?:

Should have grabbed a gel for the start of the run.
Run
  • 50m 9s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Best run I have had off the bike in several months. Pacing was consistent and about where I wanted to be on this race.
What would you do differently?:

If conditioning permits, push the pace a little more. In 2003 ran the course about :50 faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Fluids and food. Stayed on my feet walking to keep legs from stiffening on me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to lose between 10-15 lbs, and increase leg strength. Will allow to push a little harder on the bike and run.

Event comments:

Overall about 1:00 faster than 2003, but mostly due to the swim being shortened to correct length.

This year's race was not nearly as hot as last year's. Still have a lot of fun.
