Run
Comments: I had presence of mind to start my watch at the beginning of the race--rare occurrence---my first mile was done at 10:50--a great pace for me. It felt good. The second mile was where I started feeling the fatigue. What would you do differently?: Run--a lot more, outside, and on trails as much as pavement. Transition 1
Comments: A fast transition--I guess that's what happens when you don't need to remove a wetsuit! :) It was also a bit faster as they allowed riding your bike in the transition area--I'm sure there was higher probability of crashing with that method--but only if you are front or middle of the pack--which I was not...can you say ghost town??? What would you do differently?: Nothing--it went well. Bike
Comments: Not a great ride..the wet roads, coupled with the oak tree droppings meant a much more cautious ride than I usually take. I did have some issues switching gears--again, I need to get my bike tuned up! What would you do differently?: Live a little--I probably could have gone a bit faster. I need to ride that course more often--its one that is used regularly for local races of all types. The hills are good practice too. Transition 2
Comments: another fast transition...it went very quickly What would you do differently?: nothing--I will aim for all of my bike-run transitions to be like this one. Run
Comments: This one hurt. I am proud that I only walked when I got too wheezy, and that I would run again as soon as I could, rather than walking "just a bit longer" as was my old m.o. In this run, my asthma meds did not help. I believe it is due to the cold air and my not acclimating to it. My hips (the IT bands???) were quite painful after the 1st mile in this run. I still kept going though. What would you do differently?: Train more--with focus on endurance rather than speed...speed will come with the aerobic base. Also--run outside--I gave up the outdoors (when it was perfectly nice--just chilly) to run in comfort in the gym. Post race
Warm down: Walking. What limited your ability to perform faster: Stupid asthma--Its been a non-problem since I began using the inhaler...I don't know why it failed me. Maybe it was also mental? Fear--I took it easy on the bike. Event comments: A well set up race, the course is challenging, yet not insanely difficult. TBF racing does a good job organizing the races, and they always have good food after the event for athletes--today it was chili--yum! Last updated: 2012-01-21 12:00 AM

Walked around race venue and lakeside, set up my transition. Also visited with a friend and cheered on her daughter who was racing the kids race right before ours.
Walking, some light jogging.
