Swim
Comments: This was my first race in open water and I had not done any sort of open water swim training prior to race day. I didn't get freaked out by the whole epxerience...I knew I could do the distance. I just couldn't get into a comfortable freestyle rhythm the whole time. So, I did mostly breaststroke and side stroke with a little freestyle thrown in and just kept going. What would you do differently?: Practice in open water before race day. Transition 1
Comments: Didn't get in a hurry. Decided this wasn't the day to push myself and just planned to enjoy my race. Walked the whole way from the lake to T1 and back out of T1 to the bike start. Bike
Comments: Nice cruise. Again, chose not to push too hard and just enjoy the race. What would you do differently?: Could have pushed harder. I need to adjust my seat....or invest in a better one. Had some serious fanny fatigue after that portion of the race. Transition 2
Comments: Walked T2. Bike shoes off, running shoes on...bike helmet off...hat and race belt on. Off we go. Run
Comments: Walked the first portion then alternated between 1 minute running (read: normal people probably walk this fast) and 1 minute walking. What would you do differently?: Run more to build endurance. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Found refreshments. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of sleep and lack of open water training probably played big in the lack of desire to push it today. Event comments: This is a great venue for a race. The lake is lovely and the bike and run are flat. However, if you want a warm shower post-race...don't look for it in the bath house at the FFA Center...brrr. Last updated: 2006-02-16 12:00 AM

Stayed at White Lake at the FFA Center. Will not do that again. Did not sleep...basically layed still with my eyes closed for a few hours. Not a good way to start the race. Got up around 6:00. Ate a PowerBar. Drank some water. Got dressed. Set up transition. Got body marked. Headed over to starting pier.
Swam a few strokes then bobbed up and down in the water with the rest of my starting wave waiting for the horn to sound.
