I just had a great swim this morning. I normally average about 1 minute per 50 meters over a 1500 or 2000 meter continuous swim. This morning part way through my 2000 m swim I got that rolling over a barrol feeling that I've heard coaches talk about. My average split dropped to about 57 seconds per 50 meters.

Anyone else experience any breakthroughs in their training that they'd care to share?

Awesome!

Swimming can feel so good with the proper form. It's like you are cutting through the water and you feel so fish-like. It's hard to explain. But when you feel it, it's good.

Breakthroughs?

Well, I have been working with a coach on my running, and right now I am just doing drills with light running.

The last 2 times I did my light running, I felt my new form coming through and it felt good.

I just know I will be kicking butt running... very soon!

That is awesome! Nothing feels better then when everything clicks. Same type of thing happened to me in swimming. I couldn't swim more then 200m and then one day I got to 100 and thought I feel good, 200 still feel good... well I went for 700m out of no where. Everything just clicked. Since then in the past 2 months I've gone from 2:25/100m to my first race where I went 1:37/100m over 700m

I had a swimming breakthrough yesterday as well.

I did a continuous 2100m in 43 minutes.

My first 800m were in 13 minutes ( roughly 1'30" /100m)

Felt pretty good about that one. Then again, I'm pretty slow.

YOu are superfreaky if you think 1'30" is slow. Maybe for competitive swimmers, but amongst us "age groupers", you are in the top 50% if not the top 20% I would guess. How do your swim times compare to finishing times of tris you are planning?

That is pretty fast.  You should try and slow down just a touch and see if you can increase the lenght of time you hold a faster pace.

I had a good run today.  I've been fighting early peaking.  I was fast and strong a month ago, hit an injury and the end of the semester which put me out of commission for a while.  I'm still trying to make up lost ground as I have 22 days 3 hours and 47 minutes until my marathon.  So I went out today on a 5.5 mile run and decided to just kick it into gear and negative split it.  Managed the first section of hills at 8:30, held the flats at 8, kicked up the last hill in high sevens then finished the last mile or so in the mid to low 6's.  Felt good to go fast and long again
