Event warmup:

Did about 4 or 5 minutes of light jogging with a couple short strides after transition closed. It was chilly on race morning, but the sun was coming out and it was just starting to warm a bit. Lots of variation on what people wore. I decided on tri shorts and a regular tech tee, with a jacket for the bike. No gloves, but I did tape over the vents on my helmet. This was just right for the run, but maybe a little warm for the bike. Probably would have been better in a tri jersey and arm warmers.
Run
  • 14m 35s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Mass start for all the men and all the relays. It was a little crowded the first mile, then started to thin out. I've been doing no speed work at all, so I was pretty happy with this time.
Transition 1
  • 01m 42s
Comments:

One of my all time worst transitions. I got my jacket on okay, but the zipper wouldn't zip. Had to try it about four times to get it zipped. This cost me about a minute compared to most of my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Forget about the jacket and go with arm warmers.
Bike
  • 41m 53s
  • 15 miles
  • 21.49 mile/hr
Comments:

This was my first race with the aero helmet and latex tubes. Overall, everything went as planned. Maintained 22-mph for all but the last bit of the last loop. Got caught in a pack of slower riders during the last turn and took it easy the last minute or so. Pleased with pace and effort.

This course does get a little crowded, and not everyone is paying attention to staying to the right.
What would you do differently?:

Thinking about flipping the stem to lower cockpit a bit.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Jacket wouldn't unzip, so slipped it off over my head.
Run
  • 14m 55s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Same course as the first run, but everyone's spread out, so you're pretty much on your own from a pacing standpoint. According to my garmin, my first 1/4-mile was about 30-seconds off my pace for the rest of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder at the start and finish.
