Total Time = 1h 05m 51s
Overall Rank = 12/585
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/32
Pre-race routine:

Got up @ 4:30, had breakfast and drove to transition.
Swim
  • 08m 7s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Should have gotten in the water before the race to acclimate. That would have helped with the hyperventilating for the first 100 or so yards. Little or no contact and for once I swam straight!! I still am a poor swimmer and need to improve. Working on it!
What would you do differently?:

Acclimate to the water to be able to be more relaxed from the start.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Cutting the bottom inch or so from the wetsuit made all the difference, for the first time my heel did not catch!! Still slow and my feet were a bit numb.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure.
Bike
  • 36m 9s
  • 14 miles
  • 23.24 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt harder than I thought, but I'm not going to complain. This was a good ride for me!
What would you do differently?:

Try and get better on the corners and keep my cadence more constant
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Was surprised by the dismount line and did not get my feet out of the shoes. Probably a good thing since I could not feel my feet still.
What would you do differently?:

Learn the layout and be ready!
Run
  • 18m 48s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good overall, but I think I could have pushed a bit harder in restrospect. It would not have mattered as 2nd in the AG was so far ahead. Was hoping for a sub 20 min 5K-adjusted time and I got it with seconds to spare so I'm happy.
What would you do differently?:

It's the end of the race so go all out until I feel like I'm about to pass out I guess.
Post race
Warm down:

Hung around the finish line and greeted the rest of the group.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to learn to swim better. Was ok on the bike and the run but the swim put me in a hole I could not climb out of once again.

Event comments:

I enjoyed myself a lot! Was surprised when someone in my group told me I got 3rd AG!! Overall I'm stoked. First podium for me and I'm gonna enjoy it for a while! I'll certainly be back next year hoping to improve!!
