Thanks Brian,

I'm not too worried about hills as a NOT hilly ride for me is around 4000 of climbing. I'm more worried about wind, but that's a complete crapshoot anyway.  less than 4 weeks to go.

When do we start obsessing about the weather?

no problem on the update guys. Like i said, i'll report if i notice anything this time i didn't see the other times i rode the course, but there's really nothing to worry about. I would check the course map though and have an idea where turns are, just in case. It's marked with arrows, but there were different sets out there, at least there was a few weeks ago, so dont want you guys to lose your way if nobody is around. There were zero issues out there last year and people at every turn, even with having to make a last minute change in the bike course because of construction last year.

I wouldn't obsess about weather until right before the race. Last year there was a lot of rain the 2 days before and the system dredged up a lot of muck. But on race day, the water was flat as a pancake and the weather was great. Honestly best swim i have ever had. And Cedar point has contingencies where they can move the swim inside a break wall area if the water is too rough.

But, that's what I do during taper!! I need to obsess about something, might as well be the weather.

yeah i hear that, i do the same. We can start doing that ten days out, so 8/31.

Is anyone letting themsleves get a little excited about this since the peak training is basically over? I've been fighting it a little the last few days, but can't now and trying not to reflect too much on things i did and didn't do over the past few months.

My coach doesn't believe in a long taper for AG athletes, so my peak training isn't over yet. This week has been fairly lax, since I'm doing a HIM this weekend, but next week will be my longest with a three hour run and 100M bike. We'll see how excited I feel after that!

I'm definitely ready to knock out one last weekend of peak training (heading out the door in 30 mins for my longest run) and then to enjoy the taper until the race.  It has certainly been an interesting ride thus far and I'm sure the last few weeks will leave me with all new details to obsess over!

Few things from the trip out to Sandusky yesterday. There is a section of road that was recently resurfaced with tar....however, it looks like a tractor rode over it and it was hard to find a smooth spot on the right side. This stretch is about 2 miles, so we'll deal. The 13 mile backstretch I mentioned previously that is on the bottom of the map is a west to east stretch and should have a tailwind. Second time in a row it has not. Hopefully this changes race day.The lake was very choppy on the swim yesterday. I was happy to get out and felt good , but it was rough. Be prepared for that as some lake Erie tri swims this summer have been rough.Other than that, great ride. Can't wait to get out there for the race.

We get in Thrusday, will prob hang. Friday will be ride run course, drive bike course, then the park at night. Saturday I'll do all the pre-race stuff and mostly stay off my feet.

Aug 1- I ate it hard on my bike.  Cracked the frame.  Messed up my elbow, knee, hip, anything else on the right side of my body that scrapped along the road.  New bike a week ago, in the same boat..just want to get to the line healthy (er).

Heading over early Saturday morning, same as I did last year. Check the family in and the head to the beach for a swim and then a quick bike. Hang out for a bit and then register, check bike and special needs bags and then go to athlete meeting.

Going to be hard to not to go into the park and ride a roller coaster.

I'm driving in from Pittsburgh Thursday night and staying in a cheap motel in Sandusky. Hopefully we will be able to do practice lap on the swim course on Friday. Have we allowed to swim the course on Fri. the past 2 years? (if not, disregard the above and I will be arriving Friday) I'm checking into the Breakers Friday and the family will be joining me Friday night. Probably a 15 min ride and run on Sat morning and then try to keep off my feet the rest of the day (probably unrealistic with a 5 year old and an almost 2 year old)

I'm driving over from Boston on Friday and staying at the Breakers through Monday. I'll likely just hang around and relax most of the time. I'm not going with anyone, and roller coasters make me motion sick, so nothing exciting planned at the moment. Was hoping to do the drive back all on Monday, but I've acknowledged that there's a good chance I won't be feeling up to that, so I'll probably break it up into two days. Either way, I suppose I'll worry about that after I actually make it through the race...

How was that HIM this past weekend that you mentioned you had?

I wish i was going in on Friday like everyone seems to be. I'm only and hour and change out here in Cleveland....and two nights in a hotel with a 2 and 5 year old is enough .

If anyone wants to join me for a pre-race day beer Saturday night, let me know. I always have one the night before a race.

Timberman went pretty well, thanks for asking! Not quite a PR, but only a couple of minutes off, and the swim and run legs were both HIM PRs for me, so that was good. My biking hasn't been as strong this year, so slowing down a bit there didn't really come as a surprise. The weather was beautiful too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we all get that lucky for Rev3 as well!

Meanwhile, I'd definitely be up for meeting for a pre race beer on Saturday night!

yeah, don't want to interfere with anyone's dinner time...was thinking later evening (8ish) or late afternoon after athlete meetings, etc. We'll see as we get close what's going on.

TSimone - 2012-08-09 9:55 AM Managed to wreck my bike last weekend so I'm just hoping to get to the start line. Shoulder & knee issues. Thankfully the bike is fine. I'll need every bit of these next 31 days to heal up but I'll be there.

Tom, how's the injuries doing from the bike crash?

How's everyone feeling? Tom, good to hear you're healing up!

I have another busy training week on tap. Guess my coach wasn't kidding when he said he didn't believe in much tapering for age groupers. Guessing that I'm going to be completely lazy next week though in an effort to rest up before the big day. I know I signed up for this, and I really hope that race day is fun, but at this point, I just want to stop training and have a nice relaxing weekend.

Weather reports look reasonable so far. Of course too far out to be accurate at this point. Keeping my fingers crossed though!

Feeling pretty good. Body feels a little out of whack, but ok. I have a decent run and bike (separate) session set for the weekend as well. Probably not as long as yours judging by your coach Smile. I want to keep some moderate running through the weekend and then pull back for the week.

As far as weather, it's a guess from here. It's going to be interesting to see what happens when the remnants of hurricane Isaac get up here on Monday.
