Subject: RE: Bizzare Claim regarding neoprene swim caps No cap is going to cause you to swim in circles if you put it over your ears, but different types of caps may fit differently. Caps, in general, help to keep your warmer and avoid heat loss, but when I swim in cold water I just wear 2 latex caps. The thicker the cap, the more likely it is to fall off and slide around. You do not have to cover your ears when wearing a swim cap, I don't and personally hate to. Ear plugs also help to keep warmth in and is recommended for swims in very cold water. I think the Alcatraz swim is 1.5 miles in 65 degree water, with a lot of waves and currents. They try to time the swim with the currents and for this race I would highly recommend cold water acclimation and wearing two caps and ear plugs. Cold water can be disorienting if you are not use to swimming in it for long periods of time, so be careful and good luck! |
