Subject: RE: double and triple ironman...crazyness?After I read the article, including the place where it mentions one of the men completing a 10xIronman I was a little excited, like it is something that I would want to do. About the training....I think as you keep increasing the distance your training time only increases marginally. For example, if I recall, in the Triathlon Training Bible (Friel ) I think the time required to complete for a sprint triathlon is roughly half that of a full ironman. I doubt if more than a full ironman distance would require much more training, but rather, maybe different training. When I was training for the mile in track we would run up to 4x-6x the distance (including warmups ) on long workout days. When I was training for cross country in hs, we would run up to 2X the race distance on long slow days. When training for marathon, nobody suggests running over 20 miles to prepare for a 26 mile race. I am guessing that most ironmen competitors rarely workout more than their race time in a single workout.
Just my thoughts........boy that 10x Ironman still seems like a big challenge.....hrmm.....maybe in another 10 years. |
