Comments: Great example of how mental preparation is so important in a marathon. I wasn't as committed to this race/distance as I was at Houston, and it showed. I went through the halfway point right on target to run a 3:45. But, the mental part hit at mile 20, which made the last 10k a sufferfest. I felt shot, but my HR showed a significant decline at this point. So, it wasn't fitness. It was mental. What would you do differently?: Commit to the distance. I almost turned off for the 1/2, and that uncertainty destroyed what could have been a good race. Post race Warm down: Stretched, changed and drank a couple of beers while listening to the concert. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mental, mental mental. Event comments: Had everything in place to PR. But, once I "checked out" mentally, things fell apart. No one to blame but myself. Stayed at a hotel very near the start line. Was great to be able to get up at a decent time, shower, have a little breakfast and then walk to the start.
Basic stretching to get the muscles warm.
