Now I'm just confused. I got one and I haven't used it yet. I thought the weight added would negate it's advantages. I guess if you weight 220 lbs a few more doesn't matter in any event.

If you can't drink from a bottle while riding a straight line, that is just a skill you need to master. Practice it.

That's a really good point -- a cyclist owes it to themselves to have confidence in their bike handling skills -- spoken by someone who was once one of those who couldn't drink and ride at the same time.

A positve for the camelback or aerobar bottle is that you don’t have to worry about dropping the bottle during the race or during training (which I just did…)

i can drink and ride on really good days on my hybrid. my raod bike is too twitchy and i'm too nervous on it. cycling in a fricking crazy wind tonight has done f*** all for my confidence.

Not as bad as a 6-bottle belt, but at my last 5k it was mid 40's, windy and rainy and a guy had a 20 oz. bottle full of Gatorade in a belt pack.  I didn't get a chance to chuckle about it because I never caught up to him.  I think he took third in about 20 minutes.

WHEN would he possibly have time to drink? Probably could have left it in his car and drank when he got back.

That's what I thought.  I kept him in sight for the first half of the race, never saw him drink and he went past the one water station without taking anything.  After that either he was too far ahead or my vision was blurring.  Maybe he was doing a longer run after the awards ceremony, although it wasn't a good day for it.

I've done my long training rides with a Camelbak, and plan on using it at IMCDA.  I can ride and use water bottles just fine, so it is not a bike-control issue; I just find the Camelbak to be very convenient, and the extra couple pounds doesn't bother me.    Thus, at the bottle hand-ups, I'll just have to grab water to fill my aero bottle.  I have been alternating between an upright position and aero in training, and when I'm upright I use the Camelbak, and when I'm aero I use the aerobottle.
