I would hope Active has a way of verifying, but that is probably me just being naive.

stevesflyshop - 2012-12-17 6:49 PM I went there to sign up. I will still sign up as long as I know the money is going to the families and not some schmuck in Florida (nothing against Florida - its the address where the person "running" this event resides).

I don't know what it would take to create an event and have Active handle the fees. I'm guessing it requires a little more than an email but that's probably just me being naive too.

I'm still hoping its legit but am going to hold off for a few days to see.

I'm in the Active Ambassadors program, I'll shoot them an e-mail and ask.  I don't think they'd put themselves on the line if it weren't legit.  They're owned by Competitor group which is a huge corporation.

Hi everyone (who knows me) long time no see!  Told Matt I would pop in and say hello.  Looking at the Sandy Hook 1/2'er as well.  Hopefully it is genuine so I can get my bum moving (not that I should keep not moving if it isn't).

Regardless of whether or not it is legit, I signed up. Who knows if I'll ever see anything from it, but hopefully it is "for real" and the money goes to what it is designated for. I can't imagine that Active would allow something to be advertised if they knew it wasn't a real event, however, as we have seen, there are all kinds of people out there not on the up-and-up...sad, but I suppose it's a fact of the world we live in.

On another note, my daughter was THRILLED that we signed her up for a half! She doesn't know what the event is about as we haven't talked to our children about the events that happened on Friday, but is thrilled about the half. My son asked if we signed him up for a full! He was actually disappointed that it was only a half.

Hope everyone is doing well this holiday season. These past few days have been warm enough to rain instead of snow and it has been WONDERFUL!! I will take tons of rain over snow any day!!

Matt - are you doing the Denver Tiathlon this year? Since I couldn't make it last year I was going to see if you were there again this year. I'm also thinking that would be a good tune up for Boulder.

Hi Everyone---just popping in to say hi.  My New Year's resolution is to become active in this group again (and to expand my fitness repertoire beyond running!).  I was too excited to wait until Jan 1!  Looking forward to seeing what everyone has been up to and to become a contributing member of the group again.  Joined a gym with a pool yesterday (Washington Sports Club) and tried the rowing machine for the first time---loved it! Maybe it's not too late to take up crew!?!   My back muscles protested when I woke up this morning which I take as a very good sign.

Starting a new job on Jan 7 (hospice nurse) and also have a few races on the calendar for the spring:  The Rock-n-Roll half marathon in DC in March, the Nike Women's Half Marathon in DC in April (inaugural event---so excited I got a lottery spot!) and the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler in DC in April.  The Marine Corps Marathon is definitely on my radar again this fall (though I'm just going to stick to ONE marathon this year).  The rest of the year is a blank slate for now---maybe this is the year that I achieve my first sprint tri?

Best wishes to everyone for health, happiness, and PR's in 2013!

Fondly,

Robin

Hey All,

Sorry I have been offline- I've had my kids for the last 10 days, and the last three have seen them sick.  I'll be starting a new group in the new forum early next week.  Going through the new members and starting a group with 20+ people requires a lot of time investment, and I want to do it right.  I figure we have 10 people going forward, so we'll add 10 more next year.

Matt
