THIS..

Is why I do not attempt to clip my shoes to the pedals before hand.  I just put them on in transition. It may cost me 10 sec IN transition, but crashing and looking like a fool when trying to get my feet in the shoes OUT of transition will cost me more than 10 sec.

THAT is why you practice your transitions over and over and over.

JohnP_NY - 2012-04-03 8:53 AM Anyone know a good source for instruction on transition?

Funny thing about this video which I've seen before.  Last season I practiced taking off the top of the wetsuit while leaving the cap and goggles in the sleeves.  While running to my bike at a race last year, sure enough, lost both the goggles and cap.  I knew they fell out when they did, but I was competing for a podium in that race and just left them.  Luckily my wife saw it and she retrieved them.

So when the guy on the vid says, "these aren't going to fall out."  I say they might.

Agreed. I've had to take a step back & pick up my goggles too. If it's a sleeveless you have no choice but to run with them in your hands anyway. Full-sleeved or not, that's what I do now. There is no time lost by just dropping the cap (goggles inside) by the running shoes @ T1.

Two recommendations:

1. Get yourself this DVD and watch it a few times:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1935045091/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000M15N7W&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=156S0474G4BZMG1PGX0W

2. Now, do what the DVD says and practice your transitions. Triathlon Transitions: Mastering the 4th Discipline

DV 1 - 2012-04-03 2:39 PM T2 Tip - put race belt, hat, glasses, gel, etc... in a zip lock or similar small plastic bag. Change shoes (however you want), ditch helmet and bike, grab bag and go.

This is just BRILLIANT.  Totally gonna do it in my Oly   Just have to make sure the race belt is on before I leave T2 just in case they want to give me a penalty so maybe zip lock + belt and just put belt over head.
