Pre-race routine:

Up at 4, Odwalla bar and coffee in the car on the hour drive down.
Event warmup:

Went for a swim without wetsuit, put on wetsuit and went for another swim. Took off wetsuit.
Swim
  • 12m 59s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Good swim considering my current swim fitness. With recent weather and my YMCAs restrictions on when I can take my homeschoolers getting to the pool is difficult. I need to try harder.
What would you do differently?:

More swim fitness
Transition 1
  • 01m 41s
Comments:

Forgot to open up cycling shoes so that cost me a few seconds. I ran though which is good for me. Having Ken on the other side of the fence yelling for me was great!
What would you do differently?:

Have shoes ready
Bike
  • 54m 18s
  • 16.1 miles
  • 17.79 mile/hr
Comments:

The plan was to go hard on the bike to see how much I can push it and run after. Still wishing I would have gone harder. All the race reports from previous years said headwind on the way out and tailwind on the way back but the wind was different race day. I was going fast right out of the gate and should have capitalized on that.

What would you do differently?:

I have ADD on the bike and need to focus, I get distracted. Wanted 18.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Ummmmm I sat on the ground in transition and peed.
What would you do differently?:

Peed during the swim.
Run
  • 46m 53s
  • 4 miles
  • 11m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

The last mile in the field sucked. The plan was to finish strong but when I got to the field it was all I could to not walk. This isn't even a trail, not packed down at all. I lost count how many times I tweaked my ankles, there were holes everywhere the ground was mushy and lumpy.
Half mile paces: *12:05,11:38,11:42,11:34,11:48,11:30,11:53,12:00
Took my water flask with me = good, 2nd Surge at 2.3 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Not much honestly. I felt I ran a smart run but the off course stuff was rough for me. At the last water station I inhaled the water which started a huge coughing fit bringing my HR up and being off road didn't help that.
Post race
Warm down:

Ok this is where it got tough. JP popped in my head on the run and I stuffed it, I knew if I got emotional it was over. Once I crossed the line it all came out :( so glad Ken was there for me.
Once again it took Run Wild FOREVER to get the numbers. The Super Sprint had received their awards and were likely showered before Sprint awards were handed out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have been sick for over a week. I am better but have a lingering cough. We also lost our friend on Monday so it was a very emotional week.
The last mile of the run course around the lake. This is new for this race. Not saying I wouldn't do it again but I hope they change it before next year.

Event comments:

The course was tricky if you didn't pay attention. Saw LOTS of folks cutting the swim, that was not explained well. It is also obvious many only did one feeder loop, you can't tell me some 40ish year old woman is running 4 miles in 19 minutes. Read the race packet folks!
Run Wild is the only timing company in town and they suck.

Great job out there Keri!  Sorry I keep missing you at these races.

Someday, people will finally stop accepting the horrible job that RunWild does and either stop signing up for races or start a competing company.  In the meantime, all of us will suffer.  I love how there are some 13 minute run times for a 4 mile course...and I bet those folks picked up awards too!
