Overall Rank = 10/182

Age Group Rank = 1/18
Pre-race routine:

Slept about 3 hours, drove to Baytown and got set up in transition. I got there about 5:15, so I had my choice of transition spots. I ate a banana about 4 am, drank some gatorade and had some shot blocks while driving.
Event warmup:

About a 2 mile jog with some pickups. I meant to swim, but got distracted.
Swim
  • 06m 17s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim was definitely a short course. No way it was 600yds. I started off hard and fast to get ahead of the group and then settled in for a comfortable swim. Not a bad result considering that I've only been int he pool twice in the previous 2 months...
What would you do differently?:

Need new swim goggles.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

A little slow because I decided to wear a wetsuit and didn't have my shoes clipped in. Stil a pretty smooth transition
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 40m 45s
  • 16 miles
  • 23.56 mile/hr
Comments:

This was an okay ride. It was crowded on the way out, which helped with some drafting, but the way back had a headwind and was much more open due to the thinned out crowd. I averaged 255W (95% of FTP), which is probably about right. I still feel like I should have pushed harder
What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder and stayed focused in the middle of the ride.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Good transition.
Run
  • 25m 56s
  • 4 miles
  • 06m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a pretty poor run, but not surprising considering that I had to take 5 months off from running. It'll come back. The course was crowded and it was very difficult to know how far I'd run.
Post race
Warm down:

I ran right through the finish line and straight to transition to grab my bike and head home. Wasn't able to stick around for awards or food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness.

Event comments:

Run course is pretty poorly set up. The same out and back twice and it was easy for people to cut the course. Also, the timing company RunWild, did a poor job as usual.

Great job Andrew. Looks like we had some similar thoughts on the race. Bummed to see you think the swim course was short but my swim finess is lacking for sure. Tons of folks cut the swim as well at least in my wave. If they are going to have us do 2 loops there needs to be another timing mat to keep folks honest.
