I love running in my fivefingers.  I have done half marathon distances in them with no problems.  Love being able to feel the surface and how they feel without socks, etc.

My problem is that using them for tris makes my T2 time horrible.  Can anyone recommend a minimalist shoe that will give me the same type of feel?  I tried some Merrells (Road glove i believe) but they were way to narrow for my foot.  I was looking at the Saucony Hattori, but cant seem to find anyone locally that has them in stock.

Try the new balance minimus road zero. Love them. Very similar feel.

Not as much of a minimalist shoe as the VFF's but I use the Saucony Progrid Kinvara's. They have a very light weight, much thinner sole are great w/o socks and really comfortable. Right in the middle between normal sneaks and VFF's. Much like a racing flat. I wear them exclusively to run although I still love my Bikila's!

NB Minimus - the trail version is super thin but with good ground-feel and they come in wide (yay!).

Have you heard of Kigo? They're a fairly new company and their Drive model is fairly wide. I have really wide feet and they work for me. Pretty good specifications for a minimalist shoe too.

x2.  Ran in a pair just this week and they are JUST like my VFF Bikilas.   BTW:  NB 730s are built on a very similiar last as the Minimus line-up.  And you can get them for around 60.00.

Maybe Zoot Ultra Speed or Zoot Swift?  They're both 17mm/7mm midsole height and 7oz for size 9, per their website.  Plus I doubt they's anything that goes on faster.  I've got fivefingers but have never ran on hard surfaces with them because I like my Kalani's so much.

I've ran 3400 miles in Vibrams. About a year ago I made the switch to SkoraRunning.com's shoes. The Base (attached) is an ideal triathlon shoe. 9mm of drop, fairly light, stitch down construction, sock-like slip on fit. I've done a 100 and a 50 mile ultra in that shoe. Within the last couple months I've actually became employed by the company, but I would not have taken the job if they were not the best shoes I've ever ran in

I have tried the Hattori. I promptly returned it. I felt it was a cheap (well, it is at $80) built shoe that will not last terribly many miles. I've heard of people having to replace them at 300.

Merrell Road Glove, New Balance Minimus Zero Trail or Road, Saucony Hattori, Vivobarefoot Neo, Altra Samson or Adam. All zero drop with good ground feel. The Altra models are going to give you the most ground feel (very thin). The Saucony may be too narrow in the toe box, but it's worth a look.

I just picked up the Merrell Trail Glove sense my job doesn't let me wear VFFs anymore.  Great shoe but it's a little hard to get into so I'd knock them off the list for tri.

Ended up going with the NB Minimus Road Zero in the wide version.  Love how they feel, and pretty easy to get into with some speed laces.

FWIW I love my Hattoris but would never use them for a tri. They are pretty hard to get on and for some reason I have to wear socks with them or I get blisters. Great trainer though!
