Subject: Kona Lottery Winners

So ....... how exactly did you answer all those questions on the lottery application? Last two years I've tried honesty. This year I may put random thoughts like, "red" "flip turns" "panties" "P5" "Lance" "Seat's Too High" etc ...

Honesty.  In fact, this is the first year I haven't had really good answers.  In my previous lottery attempts I was always able to play up the "I'll be training while deployed" thing.  This year I just filled it out.  I played up my long distance swimming abilities a bit (and my amazing "double feat" of the 10k swim and Boulder 70.3 in one weekend), but otherwise, nothing interesting.  Took me a minute to fill out the page.

I think with those answers they really are maybe looking for their one or two showcase stories...the person coming back from a terrible accident, the cancer survivor...whatever...the people they feature on the video.  I don't think the answers to those questions impact the actual lottery drawing at all.

I got in last year and I am so boring there is no way my answers were interesting enough to make my selection anything other than random.

I am pretty boring too and had nothing exciting to say. I agree that is must be for highlight stuff on NBC. And of course the year I have nothing interesting to say and just filled out the form as quickly as I could, I got in.
