Subject: My first century I did my first (what was supposed to be) century yesterday. The ride was AWFUL! Crazy headwinds or crosswinds for the entire ride, super hot temps (over 90F) and horrible chip-seal roads, not to mention it seemed uphill the entire way! As we were nearing the end, I noticed that we were not quite at 100 miles, but once I noticed, I was already in the final turn at the finish line. It was short by 3.5 miles. I'm kind of upset that my first century ended up not being so. I did a metric century a few weeks ago that ended up being long by about 6 miles. I'm new to cycling so I'm wondering if it's normal for rides of those distances to be either short or long? Now I guess I need to go find another century that's closer to the full distance (and if it's not, then I'll ride around until it is a solid 100 mile distance)! |
