Pre-race routine:

Breakfast of cereal, coffee, and gel right before race. Mad dash through the porta potty before arriving at my heat 4 minutes before start!
Run
  • 59m 49s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out with two fast runner friends who pushed me too hard in the first 2 miles...HR was probably about 165 the whole time. I finally convinced them to leave me at mile 2 and then hated the next 2 miles. At mile 4, I hit my second wind and ran an 8 minute mile and then had a really strong finish. I wanted to beat 1 hour and I did, so I'm pleased.
What would you do differently?:

Pace differently at the beginning. Arrive at start earlier so I would have time to stretch.

Good job... Way to reach your goal. You must have been working hard if you saw the clock and knew you were close. Congrats.

Good job on your run!  It is tough when you start off faster than you want.  Way to recover!

Nice run!!  Not sure what it is about this race but 2 out of the 3 years I've done it, I've got to the start line just in time to get set before the gun goes off.  Thanks for keeping a great tradition alive
