Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 5am. We needed to be on-site at 6:30 as the girlfriend was volunteering.

Had a quick shower, ate oatmeal and yogurt for breakfast plus a little of a protein shake.

I mixed three bottles. Water, water+protein, water+carb
Event warmup:

The first 200 or so meters of the swim? I have been doing my training swims incorportating my warm-up swims as well.
Swim
  • 12m 41s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was actually as good as I could have hoped for. My previous PR in the water was 12:41....in the water. This 12:41 included time to the pool and then time out of the pool, out of the building and across the next set of mats. My watch clocked my swim at around 12:24.
What would you do differently?:

I really needed tri-shorts
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

No sure on the tim here. LONG.

I'm tall and have a tall bike because of it. The seat wouldn't fit under the rack bar.

I also tried to put on my helmet before my top.

My helmet strap got tangled up.
What would you do differently?:

Have the seat in a down position so I can pull the bike out of the rack and raise the seat quicker.

I would def tripple check my helmet strap so it does not get tangled again.
Bike
  • 46m 42s
  • 16 kms
  • 20.56 km/hr
Comments:

The time is for more like 18km and includes both T1 and T2

I did pretty good on my mountain bike, the only guys who passed me were on tri-bikes, and I am ok with that.

Also note that I do not have clipless pedals so I biked in my running shoes.

What would you do differently?:

On the bike, nothing, baring a new bike, maybe get some "bull horn" handles so I can get a little more aero on the mtb.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 18m 4s
  • 3 kms
  • 06m 01s  min/km
Comments:

Run was ok.

My bricks didn't really prepare me for the legs I would have coming off that bike, possibly a factor of the cold. At least I knew it would pass.

First 800 or so meteres was a pretty crappy pace which hurt my run time. the rest of the 3km was pretty decent though!
Post race
Warm down:

walked around a bit. Had a couple of bananas, drank a protein shake.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wanting to finish, it was a short race, but I am sure I could have pushed myself to the point where I wouldn't be able to complete the run.

I wanted to be able to complete this entire race as a run without having to walk.
