Overall Rank = 200/223
Age Group = 54-59
Age Group Rank = 6/8
Pre-race routine:

Got up, walked the dogs, cup o coffee, drive for 3 hrs to the start
Event warmup:

Swam out and back little to get some water in suit
Swim
  • 28m 32s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was shorter than usual, I've never swam this distance in less than 35 mins and I'm slower than ever this year. I had more contact this year than ever before too, always someone grabbing my feet or hitting me or swimming over me. I was just hoping to get through the swim and it went better than expected. Not much pain.
What would you do differently?:

start a little sooner, I waited a few mins after the horn went off and ended up with the breast strokers, just couldn't get through them.
Transition 1
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

I was pretty wobbly after the swim and there was fresh chip seal in Transition, pretty hard on the feet. I was really happy to see my sister just ahead of me, she started 5 mins behind me and I figured I wouldn't see her at all in T1
Bike
  • 1h 26m 29s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.24 mile/hr
Comments:

I was all about the finish today so worked hard to keep my HR and pace under control. I almost always get caught up trying to "race the bike" and then always pay on the run so this time, stayed mostly in Z2. Sore back and knees a bit by the time done. Played pass and pass back with my sister, was fun to ring my bike bell when passing.
What would you do differently?:

RIDE LOTS. This was my longest ride of the year by about 6 miles and wowee did I ever know it!
Transition 2
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

Just did the best I could, pretty wobbly after bike
Run
  • 1h 10m 50s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 11m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

Ohhh.......started out fine, ran right to the PP and was much happier. First 2 mi went ok then had to start walking. I could really feel my lack of conditioning and training. Legs just went away and I had to look down to make sure they were still there. I did have fun all the way, ran/walked the rest of it till 1.5 mi to go and ran the end, finally got my legs back.
What would you do differently?:

train for tris more?
Post race
Warm down:

walked, drank water,

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of conditioning. I entered with the "how bad can it be" philosophy and with the thought that if I got through the swim, I'd be happy and could probably finish.

Event comments:

I just wanted to finish today and I did so I'm really happy with how it went. Swim was way better than I'd hoped, bike was not as good and run was well, a slog. I had the most of of any tri Ive ever done today!!

I was there and watched the start but had to head out to a family event.  I was walking on the side of the road to the lower parking lot cheering all the competitors on the bike as they were going by.  I'm guessing that was you that rang the bell at me.  It would've been within the first 1 1/2 miles of the bike leg i believe.  Awesome job and love the enthusiasm.

Hahaha, thanks for your comments!  It was either me or my sister, she was a bit ahead of me and we're both all about the bells.  They tend to lighten things up a bit and I don't take myself too seriously.

It was definitely you.  Great job and nice to see someone having fun out there.  I'm slow but enjoy every minute of it and thank every volunteer I see.  Hope to see you out there again!  Maybe we'll be racing together next time.
