HFP Racing
70F / 21C
Total Time = 1h 23m 17s
Overall Rank = 73/200
Age Group = ladies 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/11
Pre-race routine:

Got up, grabbed a quick bite to eat, grabbed some coffee for the road and headed out the door...To our surprise the GTT series was also taking place on Sunday which was different then last year, consequently transition was way more crowded than usual so setting up transition was a pain in the yang. But I got everything set up with a little time to spare.
Event warmup:

After chatting with several BT'rs headed down to the water to jump in and warm my wetsuit up.
  • 15m 33s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards

This swim was stinky I felt like I never found my rhythm, I was fighting the crowd all the way out to the first buoy and despite finding some open water on the backside struggled to settle in. I think there was some good chop that contributed to this due to the wind on the water.
What would you do differently?:

Ehh...train more I guess and I'm working on that, I've managed to get in the pool at least 2-3 days a week for the last couple of weeks, I need to continue to build that endurance.
Transition 1
  • 02m 6s

This was a disaster, I couldn't get out of my wetsuit and then I couldn't get my helmet buckled...argh!
What would you do differently?:

I really should practice transitions...
  • 38m 43s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 19.26 mile/hr

This was definitely a course PR for me, I kept waiting for the wind to start kicking my arse but it never really did. I had fight a little on the last section because there were some pretty strong headwinds on that section but other then that piece with the headwinds, the crosswinds didn't really bother me all that much. This bike felt really good, it didn't feel hard and dare I say it was almost fun. I definitely got passed be a few guys, but I only got passed by two chicks and after playing leap frog with one of them a couple of times I passed her a final time and never saw her again on the bike section so I only got passed by one chick overall - THIS IS A BIG DEAL - I suck at the bike, always have, and don't really like it but see it as a necessary evil and for me to average 19mph is very impressive for me. I guess after last weekend's race this seemed a lot easier and so I didn't hold back...
What would you do differently?:

Nada this was about as good a cyclist as Twink will ever get.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s

Ahhh, the stupid bike rack pole decided to come out so I was trying to fix the rack so everyone's bikes didn't fall over, what a CF. Oh well, got it fixed, got my helmet and bike shoes off and run shoes and hat on.
What would you do differently?:

Try not to break the bike rack.
  • 25m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 12s  min/mile

This was also a course PR and a great run for me! 25:30?!? I came off the bike ready to run and just kept pushing it, I actually picked people off and ran them down. It was great to slap five with both my Tri Parents and my FTP on my way back in since they were headed out as I was headed in. And I am really surprised by this time since I didn't feel that this was an easy run and really didn't feel like I was moving this fast, but nonetheless, I am really happy!
What would you do differently?:

I guess I could have pushed a little harder heading down toward the finish line, I may have been able to shave a little more time off if I had sprinted but probably not enough to make a big difference.
Post race
Warm down:

Of course first order of business was to PEE! I really liked that the porta pottys were right at the finish line so they took my chip off and I was able to run into the porta potty to pee right away - what a relief. I cheered for my Tri Parents and my FTP as they came across the line, then found Aysel and stood with her and cheered on the rest of the BTr's racing the OLY distance, what fun it is to cheer on friends. Packed it in after everyone finished and headed to Archers back close to home for post race beer and food. I knew before I left that I had placed second in my AG (actually it was legitimately 3rd but the chick who took first in my AG also was First OverAll woman taking her out of the age group rankings and giving me second place) So I am really stoked to hit the podium and to feel as good as I did during this race, not to mention to have a course PR by 2:00 minutes feels pretty good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training but there is only so much time in a day.

Event comments:

HFP normally does a stellar job but I was really disappointed at the finish line fare. HFP doesn't do anything really elaborate but they do always have PB&J, cookies, fruit, pretzels etc. as well as ice cold POP and bottled water and there was NO POP or BOTTLED WATER, which was all I really wanted when I finished, I was kind of disappointed...

Impressive race!

You fixed the rack!?  Unless you did something foolish or negligent to break it - just leave it.

Congrats on the podium & PR!

Hehe! Amen
