Pre-race routine:

Rode the bike route 3 weeks earlier...went to location to see the swim area and transition area the day before. Got to the race around 7am to chat with some other folks and get settled. Set up my area and looked at all the cool Tri bikes.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 7h 58m
  • 580 yards
  • 1h 22m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

First ows race and I did well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Had to run an estimated .25 miles to T1. Took suit down to waist while running...hit the kiddie pool to clean feet...wetsuit came off in a flash...put socks on, put shoes on, forgot to put my Garmin 610 on, got on my bike and went.
What would you do differently?:

Move a little faster...still not ready to skip socks and leave shoes on the bike.
Bike
  • 43h 59m
  • 16 miles
  • 0.36 mile/hr
Comments:

Rode my CAAD10-4. Got passed by a few Tri bikes, but that was it. Pushed my way through the race pretty hard.
What would you do differently?:

Guessing my heart rate was high but forgot my Garmin. Likely pushed a bit too hard but it was fun. Likely should have eased off at the end.
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Tried the quick laces but decided to go regular laces...will practice using other lace combos...put my Garmin on...
What would you do differently?:

Speed laces and go faster
Run
  • 26h 05m
  • 3.1 miles
  • 8h 24m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt toasted on the run...my heart rate was way up and never quite settled...Garmin said I ran 3 miles at the exact same pace. I expected to be 2 minutes faster.
What would you do differently?:

Higher mileage training.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank 3 bottles of water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Did not train for longer run distances do to IT band issues earlier

Event comments:

Overall it was well run and I was happy with my first Tri performance. It will be a challenge to better my times, but I will focus more,on the run.

Nice job in your first tri, especially on the swim! I also have a CAAD 10-4 as a road bike, and love it! Good luck in your next event.
