Northern Illinois Triathlon Series
80F / 27C
Overcast
Total Time = 2h 28m
Overall Rank = 16/92
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/18
Pre-race routine:

Woke up, bathroom (X2), ate some toast.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 31m 17s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt like the first lap went well but the second lap I think I lost my form and went slower. I also struggled a bit with spotting and did not swim too straight. Still need a lot of work with my swimming.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to practice more.
Transition 1
  • 03m 30s
Comments:

t1 mat did not work so this is an estimate. I also accidently hit the stop button instead of lap on my garmin so that is not accurate either. T1 had a longer run up a hill so transitions were slow.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 43s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.08 mile/hr
Comments:

Thought I would have biked a bit closer to 22mph. Felt kind of dizzy and sick to my stomch coming out of the swim, this may have had something to do with it.
What would you do differently?:

On the first half of the ride there was a tail wind and I think I could have pushed a little more.
Transition 2
  • 00m 1s
Comments:

Felt like my transition was really good.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 41m 38s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

Thought I ran pretty well through the first 5 miles. Knew the course well and used that to my adv. I knew the first half of the course was going to be uphill and the second half mostly downhill so I crushed the hills pretty well on the first half and cruised mostly downhill on the second half.
What would you do differently?:

Last 1k or so I was even with a guy I had caught up to. I knew he was staying on my back shoulder and waiting to sprint at the end. In the end he went and I let him go. Back in my HS and college wrestling days, I would have pushed. I need to get my mental toughness back.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Slow Swim.

Nice job especially on the run.  I guess knowing that course helps.  I had no idea it was gonna be so hilly and mentally would have been better had I known exactly where the hills were.

You are doing IMWI also right?
