Age Group Rank = 11/15
Pre-race routine:

Got up 3:30. Had bagel, bananna, coffee and juice. Let for race at 4:00. Got to Boerne at 6:00. On the two hour drive I had more juice and a poptart. I drove slow I was worried about the deer. I only saw two of them. I got into transition. I picked then corner spot. I met Djastroman and his wife then went for warm up swim
Event warmup:

I did about 200 meter warm up swim. I felt good. The lake was calm and the water was great. I did some stretching. Should have did a warm up run and some stretching. I organized my transition helmut and shoes.
Swim
  • 11h 20m
  • 547 yards
  • 2h 04m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought I did better on my swim. I did loose my googles at the beginning, but I got them back on quickly. I did choke once, but only a brief pause. Otherwise I felt good and finished strong. I completed Pflugerville the week before at 10:06. I do not feel I was a 1:20 slower. I thought I had a good swim

What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder. Make sure my goggles were on securely.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Good transition
What would you do differently?:

Have a quick drink
Bike
  • 44m 43s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.44 mile/hr
Comments:

I struggled at the beginning of the race, but then got into a good grove. I need to learn my gearing versus the road incline. I see why they call it killer hill. I made it up it OK. I was breathing hard. Quite a few walkers.(Houston people)(Ha ha). Going back I make up some time and pushed it. I passed a few riders. Good course. No complaints
What would you do differently?:

I need to push more. I also need to get in better condition.
Working with a group once a week is helping
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I do not do get off my bike until I stop. Safety first.
Run
  • 28m 46s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

I started off the run feeling good. Going up the hill from transition to the top of the dam was a little rocky. Once on top of the dam I thought this would be the entire run, so I paced myself. I should have pushed more. We went out and back and then off road on a sandy and rocky path, which I was concerned about with my achilles issues. But I did ok. I did slow down. After the offroad part it was packed or gassy surface and I did pick up my speed. Legs felt good. During the run I got chicked. But at the end I had a guy bearing down on me, but I kicked her in high and passed the chick and he finished behind me. I should have pushed more during the race..
What would you do differently?:

Know the run course in advance.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some cold water. Good spread of food. Talked with Djastroman and others. Cheered some contestants. Walked around about an hour. This really works well for me. If I just get in my car and leave I stiffen up and get sore. Had grapes, banannas, watermelon, and sausage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

With my injuries last year I am afraid to push. I need to push myself more.

Event comments:

I had a good time.

Great job!  Based on everyone's times for the swim, I'm pretty sure it was long, so you probably were swimming as well as you thought.
