Total Time = 2h 24m 52s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Up early for the drive to LaPorte. Mom was in town to see me race for the first time. Coffee & Odwalla bar on the way.
Event warmup:

Swam the water to get a feel for it, salty petroleum my favorite.
Chatting with fellow racers.
Swim
  • 25m 3s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Took the first half of this REAL slow after the Kemah freak out. The whole goal was to keep the HR low and stay calm. Picked up the pace around the half way mark.
What would you do differently?:

For this race, nothing. I needed to have a calm swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Got to T1 and there was a chick sitting on all my stuff. I asked her to move and she moved about an inch, had to ask her again with more enthusiasm. Ran with bike holding saddle.
Mounted but my right shoe slipped and of course I started falling to the left (already clipped in) but I saved it. Not pretty.
Nice to see Belinda & Dave Shaw at the mount line.
What would you do differently?:

Clip in and stay in control at the same time.
Bike
  • 58m 40s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 19.06 mile/hr
Comments:

HUGE PR for me! Could not be happier with this ride. First time I came back happy and could have ridden further. This was FUN! Told Ken I thought I had 18.5.
What would you do differently?:

Clip in.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Went to the wrong rack and lost control of my bike running like a doofus.
What would you do differently?:

Know where my rack is.
Run
  • 57m 15s
  • 4.97 miles
  • 11m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty good run for me at this distance.
Paused to get sprayed on my way out which was very nice.
Told the guy to spray my back on my way to finish and he sprayed too much, I was soaked and squishing with heavy shoes. Got a couple of blisters but nothing horrible.
Seeing John Blackwell for the kick the last .25 was nice then I started hearing my girls ~ awesome!
What would you do differently?:

Tell the guy to spray me just a little :)
Post race
Warm down:

Wanted to wait for Jackie at the finish, great seeing her kick it in!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I am getting just a little bit faster. Good to know I can go hard on the bike and still go sub 12 but need to stay focused on that run.

Event comments:

Great race I will definitely do again!
Unfortunately, the Athena's and Clydes are the red headed step children and although we were to receive hardware they didn't have it there. They had all A/G hardware but nothing for Athena's and Clyde's it was somehow forgotten.
This is my last year as an Athena and the only race my Mom will likely ever be at so it would have been nice for her to see me get hardware.
Only 2 Athena's, wish there were more.

This was one of those races where you back before I expected you on the bike and running ahead of where I had you.  Truly great race for you and it was a pleasure cheering you on.
