Subject: Build a rear wheel with disc-cover?
So I've decided pass on the Zipp 101s for my new P2. Spoke with Wheelbuilder.com and they suggest the following for a lower cost disc option...Kinlin XR-380 for a rear wheel...build it with a disc-cover and throw a new Ultegra cassette on there...total cost around $750. Is that worth the potential gain? I'd love your feedback.

Honestly you are really close to the range of a used (probably wired) powertap at 750-1k.

The wheel they are suggesting is indeed a nice wheel... but if power is ever something you are/may consider... you are fairly close to it at that point.

Good feedback...why do I feel nervous about a used wheel? What is a good "used alternative" to the Kinlin with a disc-cover?

For the most part, people pick either race wheels (zipps / heds / whatever) or sturdy training wheels (Most I see are in 32hole rims) to have a PT built in. Most any of them are going to be pretty bomb proof, and PT hubs as a whole are pretty sturdy... albeit wired ones are fickle in the rain (and in general really)


There are a few on some forums right now for around $500... not advocating anybody or their stuff... just saying that such stuff is in your price range if you should choose that route.
