Starting this thread, will be my first Rev3 race. SHOULD be my 5th HIM, but in reality will be my 3rd time actually doing this distance. I was at New Orleans 70.3 and Muncie 70.3 this year with shortened courses. Did Muncie 70.3 last year as my first HIM and then did IM Lou as my first IM. I am also doing Augusta 70.3, so this race will be 4 weeks after that, will really test my racing ability.

I am excited for this race, I just can't get the fear of a shark attack out of my head

I'm in, and extremely excited for this race.  Rev3 does an awesome job - and I'm sure that this race will be top shelf, too.

And don't worry about sharks.  That time of year, the bigger concern is with the jellies.  Especially if the water is warm enough to not be wetsuit legal. :-)

Thanks for the reassurance Joel! My husband, also named Joel, is doing the race with me, it will be his first HIM. We are going to wear some sea safe lotion, but I know that won't prevent us from being stung. Now I can put my mind at ease about the sharks and focus on having a great race. I live in South Coastal GA so it is similar terrain to the Venice/Sarasota area.

I'm in for this race too.  Really looking forward to doing a Rev3 event as I hear they put on a great show.  This will be my second HIM and am hoping I remember all the learning moments I had from my first   I didn't realize jelly fish could be an issue in the gulf that time of year - thanks for that info.

What training plan are you using?  I'm using Fink's IM plan as it has a HIM built into it.

I'm using a plan I snagged from a tri magazine. It's really, really bike heavy. I'm building to Superfrog, which is Sept 30, so depending on the outcome of that, I might be out for revenge on this course, or I might be racing for fun

This will be my 1st HIM.  I've done mostly Sprints and a modified Olympic.  I'm hoping to get to Sarasota for some open water practice in a few weeks.  What is ocean lotion for?  anti-jelly?  Any other advice for this race?  Major concern  is mass start on the swim combined with waves/chop (i've always been in lake swims) and am still not a strong swimmer.

I have been training for this race and finally signed up today before the price goes up in 5 days. I am training with my own made up plan Took the bike stuff from the Time Crunched Triathlete, the Run stuff from Galloway's half marathon plan, and the swim stuff from the workouts I like. If it works, it will be a miracle, LOL!

I'm sort of doing a mish-mash too:  Fink's bike, my own run and my masters swim coaches plan.  Should be interesting!

I just read in slow twitch that there are less then 400 people signed up for this race . Sounds like this may be a lonely course for me with the real possibility of a DFL finish! Or maybe an AG placement. Or maybe both

I heard this weekend this race is being considered REV3's championship. May see some notable pros. Not sure how many with Kona being this past weekend, but it's supposed to have a $75,000 prize purse. That should bring some of the pros out I would think. Hope the numbers go up, however, a smaller field does make a podium finish more likely
