Pre-race routine:

Ate 1/2 bagel w/PB, and bowl of oatmeal. Ate two FRS Chews, and some water.
Event warmup:

Jogged about 10 minutes and stretched. Swam a few minutes before start.
Swim
  • 14m 58s
  • 900 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Super cold at first, face, hands and feet going numb. Felt great about half way through, and rounded the buoys tight. Breathed really well and sighted better than usual.
What would you do differently?:

Focus more on my breathing in the first half, and start closer to the inside to avoid getting too far out.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Included in my Swim time. Very slow T1, trying to get my socks and jersey on, shoes were quick, unracked my bike and forgot my helmet, and had to lay bike down to get it on.
What would you do differently?:

Get helmet on first. Maybe not wear jersey. Practice running sockless...
Bike
  • 1h 40m 14s
  • 20.92 kms
  • 12.52 km/hr
Comments:

Very challenging course. Need more experience on this kind of terrain and trail. No single track in my area.
What would you do differently?:

train more
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Took about 20 seconds tops to get in and out of transition. Time included in bike time.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 38m 27s
  • 4 kms
  • 09m 37s  min/km
Comments:

Good run, started slow but second two miles were strong. Two minutes faster than last year.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure. train more.
Post race
Warm down:

Dipped in the lake to clean off and cool off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training

Event comments:

gotta say I am not experienced enough on mtb courses like this to compete seriously and feel that good about it. I love the event and the people, but I really need to focus on training, especially mtb training.
