Subject: RE: Open Water Swim Practice Tofu - 2012-07-18 8:10 AM So my first tri is next Wens it's a short sprint tri. A practice series put on by the local tri club here in portland. 300 yard swim, 10 mile bike and 2 mile run. I feel very confident at all these distances. I've done a little open water practice, but I haven't practiced in my wetsuit yet. I'm going to a group OWS this thurs put on by the local Tri club in Portland. But I'd like to get at least one more OWS in before the big event maybe 2 over the weekend. Where do people recommend swimming if doing a solo OWS? Just swim close to shore along a stretch of beach. It's not really a big deal and people really overemphasize the dangers involved (although they do exist). Just stay within your comfort zone and if you have a little voice in your head saying "This is not a good idea" - listen to it and get out. Also, there are probably plenty of inlets, bays, sheltered spaces, etc that you can swim in with a lot less current, waves, etc. |
