Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() uhcoog - 2012-09-26 1:43 PM pstephan - 2012-09-26 11:51 AM I'm in! Now the fun begins! or the torture you geezer. I second the fun! Just signed up today for this one. I was planning on coeur d'alene but waited a little too long to sign up. This will be my second full, I did IMKY in 2011. Can't wait to train for this during my busy season at work (audit/tax accountant) *facepalm Does anyone have any other big races this year? I'm going to be doing my first 50k in November. |

Member ![]() | ![]() After my first two IM70.3 Texas and IM70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake in 2012, I'm in for the FULL... IMTX2013!! Now looking for the best way to train and getting some good miles on my bike. If any one knows of any group who rides the actual course, please post the info.

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in. Just signed up yesterday. This will be my third IM. Finished IMKY 2011 but overheated on the bike at the same course this year and had to pull out 14 miles into the run. My body was shutting down at that point. Needless to say, I will not be making that hydration mistake again. Now to find a hotel and figure out how to get to the race from Georgia (fly or drive). |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Also in and looking to pop my Ironman cherry. Local Houston resident so not worried about the heat/humidity. I was on the course volunteering all day in 2012 and it was extremely hot and humid without a cloiud in the sky all day. I live 30 mins away in the The Heights north of Houston so I will commuting it. Last year it was only 25 mins from my front door to parking. With set-up open for days in advance it is not as crazy until close to an hour prior to start. There is an HEB (grocery store) literally 25 yards from transition for spectators along with restaurants and bars along the waterway. Hopefully they leave the run course the same as in years previous. Just bought a new Felt B16 last night in preparation. Switching over from the aluminum world. Lot of racing still before May but targeting a sub 11 hour finish as of now. Will probably have an update after the Houston Marathon in January. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yeeeeee-haaaaaw!!! I'm in for IMTX 2013 and excited to jump in on the discussions here! I've heard lots of great things about this race and am excited. I'm from Virginia but have lived in DC for the past 11 years and this will be my first trip ever to Texas! Couldn't think of a better way to spend it than doing an Ironman! A couple posts came up about training plans. For IMLP in 2011 and IMSG in 2012 I used Don Fink's Be Iron Fit and couldn't have been happier with the plan. This year I am planning on using that again... if it ain't broke! I made hotel reservations at La Quinta Inn North in The Woodlands. It seems like a decent place and had a fridge microwave pool and breakfast! I kind of went off for this one on my own and don't know anyone else doing it (yet!) so will look forward to everyone's updates here! Happy training! Ryan |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ryan, I see you did IMSG in 012 as did I. Hopefully, the water and winds won't be as wicked ![]() I did BT's Intermediate Iron Plan last year for IMSG. I felt well prepared and felt the above mentioned weather really altered my race and times. I wouldn't hesitate to use it again, but I too am using D. Fink's Competitive plan. 30 weeks starts Monday ![]() Looking forward to this thread growing through the months. |

I'm from Virginia but have lived in DC for the past 11 years and this will be my first trip ever to Texas! You'll learn we don't really say "yeeee -haaaaw" down here in Texas. If you live and train in the DC/ northern Virginia area you should be somewhat accustom to the heat and humidity - a major factor for IMTX supposedly. I spent some time in Quantico and know it can get very hot and humid their as well, at least in the summer so happy training. Edited by JAngell 2012-10-22 9:01 AM |

Heck I was sweating my tail off just sitting on the run course watching this year. |

Congratulations on your race there. I just read your race report. Nice job! Let me know if you have any ?s about Be Iron Fit, I did the competitive 30 week for my first one and only 20 weeks of the intermediate for SG. Yeah that was the main lesson from SG about weather really affecting the race. I feel like I need to pack some drammamine in bags from now on just in case |

Haha! Oh no! What will I say now during training to motivate myself? It will probably be too early to get any real heat acclimation in before Texas, but by June and July it really heats up here. With the weather being the way it is recently though, you never know what to expect anywhere! But yeah I am used to how to deal with heat/humidity when I have to which is good. You are in The Woodlands? Will this be your first IM race down there? |

You are in The Woodlands? Will this be your first IM race down there? Do you have a basement? Crank the heater up and go to town on the trainer. Seriously..... kinda. I live in Cypress which is another one of the many suburbs of Houston like the Woodlands. It will be my first. Hard to pass up a race where you can train on the course and only have to get a hotel room for 2 nights. |

In Hoc. Yeah, no real hills on this course. Just rollers. |

Just moved from PA ... very novice triathlete, would welcome a few training routes/suggestions etc. There's a large racing community up there. Go into some LBS and ask around for different teams and start attending meetings or inquire about good workout locations. I've lived in Houston for a little over 4 years and that's how I found my race team. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() wanna race - 2012-10-31 3:29 PM Does anyone know how far drury inn is from the start and finish? They have "moved" the start/finish shoot the last couple years but were only 10/15 minute walk apart. Without an address to the Drury Inn I could not tell you. I can tell you that there is plenty of parking available kiddy-corner for Cynthia Woods Pavilion in you arrive early enough (parked there this year and made things a breeze). |

Google maps says 24 minutes walking to the finish and 33 to the swim start. |

New user![]() | ![]() Hi everybody! IMTX will be my first full! I signed up the minute registration opened, then called and reserved a room at the host hotel for a week. I'm going to have to rob a bank to afford all this. I live in the hot, humid center of SC so I'll be able to acclimate, thank goodness. I did two halfs in 2012, including Augusta HIM. Right now I'm almost at the end of a total 2-week break, then I'll start "warming up" for training. I plan to start training in earnest in December. Looking forward to getting to know everybody! |

From what I saw last year spectating it is worth the $$$ to stay at the Marriott on the waterway. |
