Comments: Started too far back in the pack, tried to bridge up to the lead group too late, the second group didn't act like they wanted to ride. I did group up a bit and held a 20+ avg through 21 miles, then mostly rode solo, some brief periods of group riding, when the short routes merged with the long one I had more rabbits to chase down. The finish stretch was a bit tedious, a mild headwind and long but gentle graded climbs that seem to wear me down more than steep rollers What would you do differently?: Not much, Ive been a bit off since Ks. 70.3, trying to find "what ever it is" I am ok with my average speed but had hoped for a bit more, 19 even 20. This course should be faster than Graham ride, fewer and gentler climbs and a larger turnout, I lined up too far back and probably lost that opportunity in the first 3 miles. It was hot and I began to really notice it late in the ride and my HR would climb higher/faster than normal too Post race
Warm down: shade, water, soda, home What limited your ability to perform faster: heat, poor early decisions. I rode it hard-chasing the little pace arrow on my Cateye :) Event comments: Its a well run rally on a good route, the rest areas come frequently and seem very well stocked/manned. I stopped briefly at mile 45 to refill my aero bottle-was in and out in under a minute. The route is well marked and each aid station also had the mileage to the next clearly marked. I don't really use aid stations but mentally I appreciate the data Last updated: 2012-01-05 12:00 AM
