Overall Rank = 40/138

Age Group Rank = 5/8
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early, packed up the car, grabbed a gatorade and a banana for the road. 30 minute drive to race.
Event warmup:

None. Watched the half-distance racers on their swim and T1.
Swim
  • 26m 9s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt great. Broke away from the group early. Was a little worried that I overdid it here, but I think it worked out for me. 2nd person out of the water (the wave was 39&under males).
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Not too bad. I got passed by 1 person in transition, but he ended up being 2nd overall, so that's ok. Still so much better than last time. Did better at getting my socks and shoes on without too much hassle.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 9s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.51 mile/hr
Comments:

And this is where it started raining. Hard. It was little bit miserable, and I got passed a lot. That's what happens when you're a good swimmer but suck at the bike. There were a lot more hills than the elevation map had shown. And some of them were steep. Going down those was actually a bit scary, with the rain and all.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get more comfortable on the bike. And faster.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Nailed it.
Run
  • 51m 4s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt like crap on the first mile. Was convinced that I wasn't going to make it very far. Then I just kept pushing myself, only stopping (very briefly) to drink water from the aid stations. Found a bit of energy and actually sped up for the last mile. This is actually the first 10K I've ever done without walking! (What?!?)
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. A lot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The rain on the bike?

Event comments:

Had a great time. I'll definitely be back next year.

This was my first Olympic, and only my second ever triathlon.

Great job battling the elements, it did make for a tough bike!
