Update.

I just went downstairs and found my ba!!s on the shelf.  I re-claimed them after dusting them off.

Feel much better now.

Wow, I stopped reading this thread 2 days ago. But just to confirm, my balls are still intact and I will handle this situation in a mature fashion. My wife is concerned and I respect that. I will find a way to convince her I will survive and things will be fine. Thanks all.

Hopefully over time I can convince her otherwise but at this moment she drew the line in the sand first. I'm optimistic I can come up with some way to alleviate her fears but without some time in the pool I'm not going to help my case any.

I didn't read all 9 pages of responses. So forgive me if I repeat something.

To alleviate her fears:

1) Let her see you swim, in a pool and in open water. If you are not a competent swimmer, get swim lessons. Then join a Masters team and swim a lot. The winter months are a great time to focus on swimming! Become a competent swimmer.

2) Get a Swim Safe belt to wear in training and races.

3) Promise her you will never swim in open water alone. Easy enough. Right?

4) Show her the REAL NUMBERS. Deaths vs. racers. Then show other data for deaths in driving, flying, etc. Let her SEE that it is not as dangerous as it is being made out to be.

5) If all that fails, then tell her you will only do tri's with pool swims. Yes, it limits you to sprints, but better than nothing. Right?

Man, you could have save us all some time if that was in your OP.  Good luck, have fun.

But what we have argued about for the last 9 pages then?
