River City Races

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 06m 44s
Overall Rank = 4/170w
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/33
Pre-race routine:

Never fell asleep last night (insomnia prevailed) and got out of a bed at 5am with slightly ill stomach. Ate toast w/ banana, pb and honey and small cup of apple juice. Also took an S-cap to help stomach. Drove an hour to start.
Event warmup:

2 miles jogging, some stretching
Run
  • 1h 06m 44s
  • 9.32 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Did not feel well going into this race. Peak training for 70.3, so legs are tired and haven't been sleeping. Along with stomach ache I did not anticipate a great run. Did the first 2 or 3 miles a little quick(7:05), then settled into a 7:10 or so pace. Tried to stay consistent and it worked. Got a little pessimistic miles 5-6 (slowest miles), mainly because I could't shake stomcah ache. However, legs felt fine and I was able to finish evenly. Caught breath and felt fine as soon as I finished.
What would you do differently?:

Sleep the night before the race, lol. Started out a little quick, but not having done a long road race since 2011 I just paced by feel.
Post race
Warm down:

Started to jog but made it a mile and right hip was acting up. This has been an issue for a month or so now, so need to get on the foam roller.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not feeling well. Not training enough. Last year I ran a 13.1 at the same pace but was also running 60-70mpw compared to 25 at the moment.

Event comments:

I do like the race, but there is no award ceremony or post-race activities. And food was limited to granola bars, bananas, bagels and gatorade. Also, a couple people missed turns (should have been signs). That being said, this 15K and 30K are a nice way to get in a fall marathon prep and the course is lovely. Nice turnout (350 for the 15K) and nice, long-sleeved tech shirts
