Subject: Branson 70.3 - no more KSWISS?

My first 70.3 race is Branson this weekend.  I was looking at the site and on the main homepage it has main sponsors on the right...Gatorade and Vitacost.   Um, wow, so no KSWISS sponsor?   Because of the drop in numbers from 2010 to 2011 I sure hope Branson 70.3 will continue on even past the contract time for the 70.3 series.   I feel like that brutal bike course and brutal heat in 2010 might have been the worse thing that could have happen to this race.   All the reports scared most of the people away in 2011....it was a little bit more than half the 2010 attendance.

I'm still pumped, still excited, just surprised that it seems like overnight Kswiss has been removed from everything.

I posted this in Triathlon Talk to get more discussion on the longevity of first time Ironman/70.3 races and if anyone has the scoop on the future of the race and why overnight did it seem like kswiss was removed?

I actually did it in 2010. Yes the bike was brutal, and it was my first HIM. Jumped from sprint to that. Crazy wakeup call for how not trained for riding large hills I was (originally from IL). But in no way did the heat and hills push me away from doing the race. I've been pushing people to do it who are good bikers, especially in the hills, since the run is pancake flat (unless it changed). I loved it. Maybe that changed in 2011. Maybe Kswiss wasn't making the numbers it wanted and Vitacost wanted in. There could be more at play than what's on the surface and that people like you and I can guess at. But I would do Branson again. I just don't like the town itself. Too much hoopla during race time. But that's because I'm so focused on racing. If I were to stick around after, I'd probably enjoy it even more.

I will add in that I don't think Branson as a venue resonates very well with the tri-type crowd.

KSWISS is no longer a sponsor of WTC IronMan races. You won't see them at any WTC events.

KSwiss no longer has naming rights on several WTC races.  I know Sugoi is now the official apparel sponsor of North America WTC races.  That probably has something to do with it.

Not exactly.  My IMKS 70.3 and IMLOU finishers shirts from this year are both KSWISS.  They were also all over the IMLOU expo. Probably not seeing the ROI with the naming rights.

Rumor has it that KSwiss is not doing so well financially.

I think this was something very recent.  K Swiss was on my Muncie finisher shirt in July, but at the 70.3 WC the Ironman store had all K Swiss shoes marked down 50% clearance and it was not a sponsor on the shirts etc.

I he just never bought into KSwiss as a shoe maker.  Growing up, KSwiss were not considered on "par" (at least in USA) in the 80s with other brands like Nike or Converse or Reebok were back then.  Their stuff is not on the top of my "must have" Tri apparel.  Maybe others feel same way and that's part of problem.

I feel the same.  And I also feel the same about Skecher's attempt at an actually functional for fitness shoe.

actually, i have to disagree with you about skechers.   recently, purchased the go run ride shoes and love them.   working the mileage up right now, currently at 8.  hoping to use them in 44 days for NYC marathon.

I did Branson 70.3 in 2009 and 2010. In 2009 I was a DNF with bike issues, so 2010 was my rematch.

I guarantee that the bike course keeps a lot of people from doing this race. It is tough.

The KSwiss Kwicky blade lights are the best shoes I've run in to date, hope nothing happens to them as those are awesome.. love the way they feel at speed and at a slow jog.. if their finances are the case I need to stock up on them... fast..

Yea, I don't buy Sketchers attempt either unless I found out they are a subsid of Brooks or Asics or something.  It's not a brand that think, wow, that's must have quality.

Kswiss has some awesome running shoes.  Just b/c you haven't tried them don't knock them.  The brands I have recently run in include, Brooks, Nike, Saucony, Pearl Izumi and Kswiss.  My kwicky blade Light and the new Blade Light N's are excellent and are on par with the other shoes I garantee.

Was not knocking quality. My point is for whatever reason,it's not a brand I have been drawn to. All I can remember about Kswiss was bad 80 s rappers wearing them. I'm sure they're fine.

That's weird, because my IMKS 70.3 shirt had Oread not K Swiss.

Not the title sponsor but the shirt is a KSwiss shirt.

KSwiss makes some excellent stuff but I am not sure how much they are really making anymore...I used to run in the K-Onas but seems like they are gone now.  Love their tri kits but you can't get some sizes anymore.  Seems to me they are either shifting gears or on their way out.  You need to continue to evolve to stay in the game and I'm not sure they've done that.
