Total Time = 7h 22m 47s
Overall Rank = 270/345
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 37/39
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:00a and drove 2 hours into Kerrville. Ate a bagle and had some oj as I drove along.
Event warmup:

Did a little stretching.
Swim
  • 53m 37s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I'm not use to swimming with a cap. When I put it on, and got in the water, I was feeling a bit claustrophobic. When I started to swim, and had the additional shock of zero visibility, it was nerve racking, and it took me some time to get over it.
What would you do differently?:

Practice swimming with a cap.
Transition 1
  • 05m 59s
Comments:

The only issue here is getting the jersey and socks on while you're wet.
What would you do differently?:

I think I might do the swim next time with my jersey on underneath.
Bike
  • 3h 24m 39s
  • 56 miles
  • 16.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Blessing with it being overcast was that it wasn't hot at all. Downside is that we had a strong head wind on the worst part of it. Only bad part was a sharp curve around the 2/3 mark where I hit a traffic cone and crashed. Managed to get back up and running, but wasn't too happy with the placement of the cones.
What would you do differently?:

I need to have a snot rag. After the swim, when I'm on the bike in the aero-position, my nose runs a lot, and I need some cleaner way of resolving that.
Transition 2
  • 03m 29s
What would you do differently?:

Forgot to take off my gloves, had to run back and drop them off.
Run
  • 2h 55m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Struggled with the run. Even though I thought I had trained well, at no point did I run a solid mile without stopping to rest.
What would you do differently?:

Do more brick work.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some water, ate a fajita, sat down and just rested.

Swimming

Age Group: 0/39
Overall: 284/345
Performance: Below average
Suit: Full wet-suit
Course: It had been raining the day before, and it was very windy during the race. As a result of these two things, the water was very muddy. I could see the end of my hand, but that was it in the water. I was bumping into people constantly. The initial shock of the muddy water, the chop, and all of the swimmers was intimidating, but eventually I managed to settle myself, and get myself into a swim routine.
