Swim
Comments: A good swim for me. I was able to go full bore without holding back. It was a mass start, and I was the 3rd or the 4th overall, until the last turn when I got passed by a few green caps. However, I was able to overtake some running out of the water - 3 people went too hard and were barely walking up the ramp. What would you do differently?: Not much. I need to get better at swimming, but it is a different subject. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition for me - I took the wet suit off ON THE RUN, and it was mainly the matter of navigating out of the transition area. The stupid on-ramp added some time. What would you do differently?: This winter I will practice getting on the bike with the shoes clipped in. Bike
Comments: I rode the olympic course last year, so I know the road fairly well. Still a couple of steep parts were not easy to power through. I was the 3rd person up the hill, and gave up 4 spots on the downhill - I tend to descend slower... but hell, safety first on this nutty ride. What would you do differently?: Not much. Maybe a little faster speed around the turns, but I am not complaining. Transition 2
Comments: My family saw me entering the parking lot and they were cheering me on. Saw one of the guys who passed me on the downhill just getting out of the transition and it pushed me to get out faster. Run
Comments: I knew the course well from last year and from running it a bit in practice this year. There was one hill that's steep... after that, I sighted the 5 people in front of me, and got to work chasing them down. They were getting beaten down by the setting heat, and I caught all of them but one (a 50 year chick!) before the finish line... had I had another 2 miles to work with, she'd be caught too. My kids were screaming that I was the 2nd person in. They were so excited. Post race
Warm down: Hooked up with family, changed into dry clothes, walked around... waited for the awards ceremony and bs'ed with the fellow athletes. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much. My first triathlon overall podium. Nice! Event comments: I think that the SNAFU with the run course marking was the only thing of note. Otherwise, a great local race, with a truly tough bike course, and a fairly challenging run course too. Last updated: 2012-10-01 12:00 AM
