Did my last race of the season (hooray for offseason) and I placed 2nd Clyde overall.  I weighed 219 the morning of the race (so I guess I won't be Clyde next year :-( )  Check out the guy that beat me.  Not exactly what most people would think of that are unfamiliar with the Clyde category.  (3rd place had already left before the awards ceremony if you're wondering).

No shame in racing Clyde at all.  I'm looking forward to getting whipped up by the little guys next year. :-/

Is he really tall?  I'm 6'3" and range between 215 - 220. I can easily see myself 220+ with proper diet and modest weight training.

I'm 6ft even and he probably had 3inches or so over me, so yeah, he's pretty tall.  He's also seemed pretty built.

After my first race I had a few weeks ago i had a guy come up to me and say "your not exactly what I had in mind racing against today." He was a fellow clyde, I said "its my first race and just saw 220+lbs so I entered. i hope I didn't offend anyone by racing in this division." He laughed and said "oh no your fine we just dont see many built guys in this sport little less this divsion." We ended up talking for a long time. Seem like a cool guy but when he first approached me I was very uncomfortable, afraid I had broken an unwritten rule or something.

I would agree with your statement that its "not exactly what most people sould of that are unfamiliar with the Clyde catagory."  But, I think he and you are the reason for the class.  It is not for novice or out of shape.  It is for us big guys who are in shape but would struggle to get down to the "typical" tri body type.

Congrats on your podium.

Congrats!  Like most of you, I see Clydes in all sort of shapes.

I know there's a portion on the forum boards disappointed with the weight category change, but there's a big crowd of us that are unaffected by the change.  I and big portion of this group will likely never see 220.  We'll be 'lifers' in the division as long as it exists.

At the end of the day, I still get pumped when I pass skinny people!   Tongue out
