Comments: Ok, so with the run plan that I'm following, today was supposed to be a 4 mile recovery run. Oooops! I did intend to keep the HR in the "general aerobic" zone, but a combination of the hills on the course and my own competitiveness squashed that and I found myself getting up into the lactate threshold area. I did periodically try to get the HR down, but then I'd immediately catch myself thinking "I can catch that guy in front of me", lol, and then I was right back to keeping the pace I was at. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this was an enjoyable run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, had some coffee, pb&j, and a banana. What limited your ability to perform faster: I'm not sure that anything other than myself limited me. I don't think I went all-out on this, but because of the nature of the course with lots of hills and sharp turns, I don't know that I'd have been any faster had I gone harder - if that makes sense. More running, and more hill work is in order. Event comments: A nice race put on by a small outfit. Good turnout. Went and bought some thermal tights and wool socks right afterward. Milled about trying to stay warm, chatting with a co-worker and a few friends. I didn't do any pre-race jogging or warm-up because I didn't want to work up even a little sweat, then stand about in that cold.
